Called to Share the Gospel, Part Two

Yesterday I wrote how my husband has purchased 250 Gospel of John booklets and has made up packages with a booklet, an energy bar and a $1.00 coin to give to people who stand on medians at stop lights panhandling.   He hasn’t been able to do it since he came down with the flu almost two weeks ago, but this morning we had to go to town so he tried again, but there was another roadblock to sharing the booklet.

As we approached the stop light where most of the packages have been given out, we saw a lady standing on the median with hat out and a sign.  We had not seen her before and looked forward to giving her the package.  But that joy quickly passed. Husband tried to give her a package before he read the sign but she refused and then we saw that the sign said that giving to panhandlers enabled them and that the local police were not in favor of it.  She told my husband that if we wanted to give we should give to the local food bank.  He told her that there was a Gospel of John in the package and she said that was good, and that it was also good that there was food in the package.  We could not tell if she was with the RCMP or if this was her own idea to have that sign.

Husband asked her why she had her hat out to which she replied, “so I can talk to people like you.”

So one day at a time.  My husband and I both believe that places and people will be provided for him to share the Gospel of John booklet.

editing to add that after talking about this, my husband has decided to take the $1.00 coin out and add another food item.  We do know that some of the people have been collecting enough money to go and feed their alcoholic addiction, so giving more food will give them something to eat and the Gospel of John is their spiritual food.

There are always road blocks when trying to do good. I agree that the coin being replaced by another food item is a good idea. If a person can bring one person to Christ and share His word that is great. I do hope all the negativity that has been thrown your way lately will not cause you 2 to lose heart. My husband and I have left churches where we have disagreed with their practices and it is discouraging. God bless you.

Glad to hear you never give up. I will not let others sway me from serving the Lord.
